Have you ever opened your eyes before dawn and been surprised by a sunrise, breakfast in bed, or just a thought that lifted your spirit the minute you greeted the day? I experienced one of those moments yesterday on Hilton Head, and I am still reveling in the beauty of that sunrise…my first.
I am not a morning person, at least not an early morning person. But I think I might be hooked.
Sitting on the beach, iPhone in one hand and a mug of coffee in the other, I felt a deep peace; a feeling that often eludes me in my busy day-to-day life. It’s not as though I try to be overcommitted and overwhelmed. I love being active, productive, fruitful…busy.
Yesterday, however, I was overcome with gratitude for the silence. Few people roamed the sandy shore. My thoughts all but ceased as I observed the sky’s changing color. Then, all at once, there it was! The SUN. Full. Brilliant. Beautiful. It was almost as though God, Himself, was being slowly lifted to shine His Presence and Light on the world.
So I prayed and waited for God to speak to my heart. And in His faithfulness, He did. He spoke of unconditional love and of the beauty He sees in me – not the outer beauty that the world so readily confirms. He affirmed my inner beauty and value and worth, and He longs to affirm the same in you. Have you talked to God today? He is only a sunrise (or sunset) away.
“In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.” (Psalm 5:3 NIV)
